Marshfield Clinic Health System to cut oral surgery services due to high demand

Marshfield Clinic Health System, an integrated health system with more than 60 locations in Wisconsin and Michigan, will discontinue its oral surgery services, the Marshfield News Herald reported Jan. 23.

A spokesperson confirmed to the news organization that the health system will no longer offer these services beginning Jan. 31 because of its inability to meet patient demand.

The health system was only providing consultations and procedures in Marshfield as of Jan. 1. It continues to offer maxillofacial services, such as treatments for facial trauma and cleft lip.

The health system also announced in recent weeks that it is furloughing about 3% of employees across its network and would not be integrating with Essential Health. Additionally, the organization suspended surgical services at its Stevens Point, Wis.-based campus and closed a clinic in Wausau, Wis.

The latest announcements have been attributed to challenges with providing care in rural areas, the news organization reported.
