Illinois had a negative net migration of new dentists from 2019 to 2022, with a net migration rate of -2.1%, according to the American Dental Association.
The ADA classified new dentists as dentists who had less than 10 years of experience in 2019 and who were still active in 2022.
Here are five additional notes:
1. There were 2,133 new dentists in Illinois in 2019, and 1,835 (86%) remained in the state in 2022.
2. Illinois had 2,088 new dentists in 2022, for a negative net migration of 45 new dentists.
3. There were 253 new dentists who entered Illinois between 2019 and 2022 and 298 who left.
4. The top inbound state from which new dentists entered Illinois was Wisconsin, bringing in 24 new dentists.
5. Texas was the top outbound state for new Illinois dentists, drawing 24 new dentists away.
