The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Dentistry has opened a center for global and community oral health.
The center was created to bring together the school's outreach and research programs to study dental challenges, according to a Dec. 1 news release from the school.
The programs and researchers at the center will aim to expand access to oral health treatment, decrease health disparities, merge dental care with medical care and provide education on oral health.
The outreach programs are affiliated with 76 training sites in San Antonio and provided nearly 18,000 patients with low-cost oral care during the 2023 fiscal year, the release said.
