New York had a negative net migration of new dentists from 2019 to 2022, with a net migration rate of -7%, according to the American Dental Association.
The ADA classified new dentists as dentists who had less than 10 years of experience in 2019 and who were still active in 2022.
Here are five additional notes:
1. There were 2,909 new dentists in New York in 2019, and 2,416 (83.1%) remained in the state in 2022.
2. New York had 2,704 new dentists in 2022, creating a net migration loss of 205 new dentists.
3. There were 288 new dentists who entered New York between 2019 and 2022 and 493 who left.
4. The top inbound state from which new dentists entered New York was New Jersey, bringing in 44 new dentists.
5. New Jersey was also the top outbound state for new New York dentists, drawing 93 new dentists away.
