Three educational institutions have recently moved closer to opening their new dental schools.
Here are four updates covered by Becker's since Oct. 3:
- Batesville, Ark.-based Lyon College received approval from the Little Rock Board of Directors to build the site of its new dental school. The college's Institute of Health Sciences, which will house its dental and veterinary schools, will be built at the Heifer International complex. Lyon College released plans for the site earlier this month. The college hopes to begin offering dental classes next year or in 2025, pending accreditation.
- Yakima, Wash.-based Pacific Northwest University-Health Sciences started construction on its new dental school. Construction is expected to be completed in late spring or early summer 2024.
- The University of Pikeville's College of Dental Medicine will be named after the family of donors that helped establish the dental school. Carol Goff Tanner and her family donated $25 million to the university last year to establish the dental school and expand dental care access in the Appalachian region. The Tanner College of Dental Medicine is expected to accept its first class in 2025.
