A judge approved the U.S.' consent decree, prohibiting Jordan Hobel, DDS, a dentist who formerly practiced in Frostburg, Md., from prescribing controlled substances.
The decree resolves the U.S.' civil allegations that Dr. Hobel illegally prescribed opioids, which violated the Controlled Substances Act.
It is alleged by the U.S. that between 2017 and 2021, Dr. Hobel issued several dozen prescriptions for controlled substances that were outside the usual course for medical or dental practices, according to an Oct. 19 news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Maryland.
Dr. Hobel fraudulently used DEA registration numbers belonging to other dentists to prescribe himself controlled substances including oxycodone.
Under the decree, Dr. Hobel is not allowed to seek the reinstatement of his DEA registration, which is required for medical professionals to prescribe controlled substances, the release said.
