From new program offerings to industry partnerships, here are 11 dental school updates that have taken place since Aug. 10:
1. Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College was reportedly at risk of losing accreditation of its dental assistant training program.
2. The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine will add artificial intelligence technology to its classrooms through a partnership with Bola AI.
3. Bloomington-based Indiana University launched a dual dentistry and business degree.
4. Wake Forest-based NC Dental U is launching a dental assistant program at its location in Wilson, N.C.
5. High Point (N.C.) University’s Workman School of Dental Medicine was accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation Aug. 24.
6. Pamela Sparks Stein, DMD, dean of the University of Pikeville (Ky.) College of Dental Medicine, testified before a state legislative committee in support of increased Medicaid services.
7. The UConn School of Dental Medicine earned a five-year extension on its training grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research and the National Institutes of Health.
8. The University of Buffalo (N.Y.) dental clinic notified patients whose data may have been compromised after the school's third-party billing services provider was hit with a data breach.
9. Philadelphia-based Penn Dental Medicine named Sean Meehan, DMD, assistant dean and chief dental officer.
10. Greenville, N.C.-based East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine signed an early assurance agreement with the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
11. The School of Dentistry at UT Health San Antonio created a bachelor of science in dental hygiene degree program.
