Theresa York, a former dental practice manager in Portland, Maine, has been accused of stealing $456,000 from the practice, according to an Aug. 14 report by Portland Press Herald.
Ms. York joined the practice of Pamela Anzelc, DDS, in 1990 and became the office manager in 2001, having the responsibilities of depositing checks and coordinating with a private accountant.
According to Dr. Anzelc, Ms. York had been creating fake checks, saying they were to pay business taxes, and then depositing them into her personal account. In 2021, Dr. Anzelc found out she was $456,000 behind on her federal taxes.
The hearing for Ms. York is scheduled for Aug. 28. She is expected to plead guilty to theft by unauthorized taking.
Neither Ms. York, her attorney nor the county district attorney's office responded to the news outlet for comment, the report said.
