Paul Hanna, DMD, owner of Paul Hanna DMD PC, a dental practice in New London, Conn., admitted to not paying taxes from 2013 to 2020.
Dr. Hanna earned approximately $1.6 million in taxable income during the time frame, resulting in a loss of $244,541 to the IRS, according to a July 17 news release from the Justice Department.
From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Hanna filed but did not pay the taxes due and was subject to IRS collections enforcement for those filing years.
To avoid tax assessment, Dr. Hanna paid himself "management fees" instead of a reasonable wage, using the business to keep cash out of his personal accounts and paying personal expenses directly through his business accounts.
He faces up to five years in prison, the release said.
