Dental patients in Indiana now have increased access to anesthesia thanks to a new law which allows certified registered nurse anesthetists to administer anesthesia in dental practices.
Indiana Senate Bill 273 authorizes certified registered nurse anesthetists to administer moderate sedation, deep sedation or general anesthesia in dental practices while under direction and supervision of a physician, according to a May 26 news release.
Certified registered nurse anesthetists administer 50 million anesthetics each year in the country, subsequently monitoring the patient and are capable of intervening as necessary in emergent situations, according to the release.
