Rome, N.Y. Mayor Jacqueline Izzo proposed $500,000 in funding to create a dental hygienist program at a local college, according to an April 20 report by WKTV.
The program at Mohawk Valley Community College would include building a teaching clinic to allow students to receive hands-on experience and provide dental care to the community.
The total project will need approximately $1.5 million in funding, the report said.
The proposal was one of 11 made by Ms. Izzo to benefit the community and drive economic development.
The Rome Common Council must approve the proposal before the project can begin.
