Here are five federal government and policy updates that have taken place since April 21:
1. A panel of reviewers under the National Toxicology Program's Board of Scientific Counselors recommended the NTP revise its draft report on a possible relationship between fluoride and IQ to account for potential study biases and recent literature.
2. Legislation that would increase access to dental care and give dentists and patients more input in healthcare decisions was reintroduced in the Senate.
3. Rep. Mike Simpson, DMD, R-Idaho, introduced legislation that would reduce administrative barriers for dentists who participate in Medicaid.
4. The Doctors of Community Act was introduced by U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone to permanently authorize the teaching health center graduate medical education program. The act increases funding for the program to create more primary care and dental residency spots each year.
5. The CDC published updated masking recommendations for healthcare facilities ahead the nation's May 11 COVID-19 public health emergency expiration.
