Kentucky governor Andy Beshear signed a bill that creates a scholarship fund for healthcare workers, including dental hygienists, Commonwealth Journal reported March 23.
House Bill 200 establishes a healthcare workforce fund for dental hygienists, nurses, mental health counselors, paramedics and other health care professions, the report said.
The majority of the fund will be given as scholarships for individuals seeking careers in healthcare.
Rep. Ken Fleming, the primary sponsor of the bill, said that the funds will also be used to promote racial and ethnic diversity in healthcare.
Funds and scholarships will be administered by the Council on Postsecondary education.
