The American Dental Association recently released its "10 under 10" winners for 2023, highlighting 10 dentists making a difference and demonstrating excellence in the industry.
The winners include active ADA members who graduated from an accredited dental school between 2013 and 2022.
Here are the 10 winners:
Muhalab Al Sammarraie, DDS: Dr. Al Sammarraie is a site dental director at Los Angeles-based AltaMed Health Services, one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers in the U.S. He is also a subject matter expert in law and ethics for the California dental board and is an international lecturer at the Universidad de la Salle Bajio in Mexico.
Stephanie Ganter, DDS: Dr. Ganter is the co-owner of The Dental Specialists in Garland, Texas, and a co-creator of the "Between Two Teeth" YouTube channel. She participates in mission trips through Texas Missions of Mercy and international relief programs. She plans to bring together a group of dentists to complete a mission trip in Poland to aid Ukrainian refugees.
Adam Saltz, DMD: Dr. Saltz practices at Corey + Then Periodontics and Dental Implants in South Portland, Maine. He presents lectures nationally and regularly publishes and reviews content for several scientific journals. He is also vice president of the Maine Dental Association, an assistant clinical professor at the University of New England in Portland and Biddeford, Maine, and a faculty consultant at Kansas City (Mo.) University.
Aaron Bumann, DDS: Dr. Bumann is a pediatric dentist in Kansas City, Mo. He serves as a state public policy advocate for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and as an action team leader for the Missouri Dental Association and the American Dental Association. His participation on the Medicaid subcommittee for the Missouri Coalition for Oral Health helped lead to changes to the state's Medicaid policy. He regularly lectures at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, about pediatric dentistry, personal finance and advocacy.
Sable Anne-Marie Muntean, DMD: Dr. Muntean is co-founder of ignitePreDent, a mentorship organization that assists students entering dental school. She has been published in national journals and will begin serving as chair of the Council on Scientific Sessions for the Greater St. Louis (Mo.) Dental Society in 2026. She is also a member of the new dentist committee and House of Delegates for the Missouri Dental Association, and serves as a staff dentist at the St. Louis VA Medical Center.
Alex Barrera, DDS: Dr. Barrera is president and co-founder of the Houston Equality Dental Network, an organization that aims to improve the oral health of the LGBTQ community, and is a general dentist at the Legacy Community Health Center in Houston. As a wellness ambassador for the ADA, he helps support dentists experiencing things like burnout, anxiety, depression and substance abuse.
Alexandra Fitzgerald, DDS: Dr. Fitzgerald is president-elect for the Maryland State Dental Association and owner of Colliver Dental Group in Frederick, Md. She is a member of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry Alumni Association Board of Directors in Baltimore and a member of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the Dental Chapter of the American Institute of Parliamentarians.
Saniya Setia, DDS: Dr. Setia practices at Marysville (Pa.) Family Dentistry. Originally from India, she was the only student in the country to be awarded an international certificate of merit for her contributions to dental literature, academics and community service. She is also one of the youngest recipients of an honorary fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy, a nonprofit dental organization based in Rockville, Md.
Sapna Lohiya, DDS: Dr. Lohiya is the founder and president of Women in Dentistry South Bay Chapter and practices at Donlevy, Estess and Lohiya Oral Surgery Group, which has three offices in California. She has authored several abstracts, book chapters and journal articles and serves as a clinical instructor for the UCLA School of Dentistry in Los Angeles and president-elect of the Western Los Angeles Dental Society.
Andrew Tonelli, DMD: Dr. Tonelli practices at Dental Health Concepts in North Reading, Mass. He was an active member of the "Vote Yes on 2" campaign, which helped establish a medical loss ratio for dental payers in the state. He is the immediate past chair of the Boston District Dental Society and co-chair of the government affairs committee for the Massachusetts Dental Society.
