The Adirondack Health dental center in Lake Placid, N.Y., is set to close in May after operating for 30 years, according to a Feb. 25 report by the Adirondack Daily Enterprise.
The two main reasons for the closure are staffing and financial issues. The center had been attempting to hire dental hygienists for the past three years without success, the report said.
Matt Scolin, the health system's director of external affairs, said the practice costs Adirondack Health between $700,000 to $800,000 each year to run the facility and is operating at a $350,000 annual loss.
The center provided dental care to 1,022 patients in the last 12 months and has more than 2,000 active patients.
The New York State Department of Health has yet to approve of the office closing, but the company plans to shut down the practice on May 1.
