From new research to donations and campus expansions, here are five dental school updates to know since Nov. 16:
1. Research from a team at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine Center for Craniofacial Regeneration is headed to the International Space Station as part of a project to examine how stem cells behave in space.
2. Several lawmakers recently sent a letter to the president of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry asking for alleged racist remarks and actions to be addressed.
3. Milwaukee-based Marquette University School of Dentistry received a $1.02 million grant to expand services for patients with special needs.
4. Elk Grove-based California Northstate University will expand its College of Dental Medicine with a new facility in Sacramento.
5. Batesville, Ark.-based Lyon College was recently approved to offer a doctor of medical dentistry by the Higher Learning Commission Institutional Actions Council, making the college one step closer to adding the state's first dental school.
