The Organized Dentistry Coalition recently expressed their support for a bipartisan oral health literacy bill that would establish an education campaign to promote oral health literacy among at-risk populations.
The Oral Health Literacy and Awareness Act of 2022, introduced in October, would give the Health Resources and Services Administration $750,000 each year for fiscal years through 2023-27 to establish the campaign, according to an Oct. 17 news release. The campaign aims to help prevent development of serious disease, reduce high-cost emergency care and encourage use of the oral healthcare system.
The coalition, made up of various dental and oral health organizations, sent a letter Oct. 11 to Senate members who sponsored the bill to voice their support for the initiative.
A companion bipartisan bill was also passed by the House of Representatives in 2021.
