5 recent dental firsts

Here are five dental firsts Becker's has reported on since Sept. 27:

1. Convergent Dental received FDA 510(k) clearance for the first dental laser to reduce mineral loss in dental enamel.

2. John Pawlus, DDS, of Pawlus Dental in Columbus, Ind., is the first dentist in the state to use the Yomi Robotic Dental System to perform implant surgery.

3. The University of Pikeville (Ky.) appointed Pamela Sparks-Stein, DMD, the first dean of its upcoming College of Dental Health.

4. Tend opened a new office in Nashville — its first location in Tennessee.

5. The first independent venture capital fund for oral health companies launched in the U.S.
