New York has 133 dental practitioner shortage areas designated by the Health Resources and Services Administration and five more New York dental updates Becker's has reported on since Aug. 29:
1. Former dentist Vivian Letizia, from Stone Ridge, was sentenced on Aug. 25 to one year of probation for fraudulently obtaining opioids.
2. The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine partnered two of its career pathway programs to increase diversity in dentistry.
3. The Rochester Amerks hockey team and Highland Hospital in Rochester have cut ties with a dentist accused of hosting a racist and misogynistic Juneteenth party at his home with his wife.
4. A former New York dentist was sentenced to 45 days in jail for attempting to forcibly touch a patient.
5. Lexington, Ky.-based PepperPointe Partnerships expanded into New York, marking the DSO's first addition outside Kentucky.
