Khuong Nguyen, DDS, a pediatric dentist who was accused of performing unnecessary procedures, appears to have closed his practice.
Dr. Nguyen previously practiced at Clairemont Pediatric Dental in San Diego.
The Dental Board of California began investigating Dr. Nguyen in 2018 following a patient complaint. The board's reasons for disciplining him included repeated acts of negligence, excessive administering of drugs or treatment and failure to follow oral conscious sedation guidelines.
Dr. Nguyen had sanctions placed on him by the state Department of Health Care Services on Oct. 1, 2018, requiring him to submit documentation to prove the necessity of services.
As of July, Dr. Nguyen's practice has been replaced by Coastal Kids Dentistry & Orthodontics and he is not working there, according to the Coastal Kids website.
According to the Dental Board of California, Dr. Nguyen's dental license is active and does not expire until Sept. 30, 2024.
