Of the dentists surveyed, 53 percent do not offer employees at their practice health insurance, according to the American Dental Association.
The ADA collected responses from dental practices in its monthly "Economic Outlook and Emerging Issues" poll. The most recent poll represents responses for the week of July 11.
Dentists were asked, "Do you offer health insurance to your employees?" The responses included 1,200 respondents.
Here are the reasons dentists cited for not offering health insurance to employees:
Too costly — 83 percent
Staff has other source of coverage — 16 percent
Not the industry norm — 13 percent
Don't know how/unfamiliar with vendors — 10 percent
Don't feel it's my obligation — 6 percent
Don't feel it's important — 1 percent
