What dentists have accomplished in 2022

From award winners to inductees, position appointments, promotions and honors, here are some of the top accomplishments by dentists in 2022:

  1. Michael Lozman, DDS, was appointed to the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad by President Joe Biden.
  2. André Ritter, DDS, PhD, was appointed dean of the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle.
  3. Zack Studstill, DMD, received the American Dental Association's 2022 Distinguished Service Award.
  4. Lee Ann Brady, DMD, became the first woman to be inducted into the Pankey Institute's Master Hall, an organization honoring dentists who have mastered dentistry skills and contributed to the industry, institute and community.
  5. Anibal Diogenes, DDS, PhD, became the first dentist to be named a Piper Professor by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation.
  6. Douglas Peterson, DMD, became the first person with a dental degree to be named a fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
  7. Mohamed Maksoud, DMD, became the first dentist chosen for the Fulbright Specialist Program by the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Exchanges.
  8. Sarah Balaster, DMD, was appointed chief dental officer for adult specialty and hygiene at Sarasota, Fla.-based DSO Dental Care Alliance.
  9. James Galati, DDS, was elected the 142nd president of the New York State Dental Association.
  10. Dave Preble, DDS, was promoted to chief strategy officer for the American Dental Association.
  11. Michael Glick, DMD, was named the International Dentist of the Year by the Academy of Dentistry International.
  12. Kristine Oladipo, DDS, was honored with the 2021 Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry for scoring in the top 3 percent in last year's qualifying examinations.
  13. Patrick Lloyd, DDS, was selected to be dean of the Stony Brook (N.Y.) University School of Dental Medicine.
  14. Janet Guthmiller, DDS, PhD, was appointed dean of the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill.
  15. Ghali Ghali, DDS, MD, was given the Distinguished Service Award from the Louisiana Dental Association.
  16. Stephen Morgan, DDS, was elected president of the Louisiana Dental Association.
  17. Darrell Morton, DMD, was elected president of the Georgia Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
  18. Laurie McCauley, DDS, PhD, was appointed university provost and vice president of academic affairs of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.
  19. Fotinos Panagakos, DMD, was named the founding dean of Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences' upcoming dental school in Yakima, Wash.
  20. The American Dental Association recognized 10 dentists for their contributions to the dental industry within the first 10 years of their careers.
  21. Michael DiTolla, DDS, and George Zehak, DDS, were given the Gordon J. Christensen Lecturer Recognition Award and Chicago Dental Society Foundation Vision Award, respectively, at the Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting.
  22. Roshan Parikh, DDS, was appointed president at New York City-based DSO Dntl Bar.
  23. Awab Abdulmajeed, DDS, was named director of the international dentist program at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in Richmond.
  24. J. Don Spillers Jr., DMD, was appointed to the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
  25. Lyndon Cooper, DDS, PhD, was named dean of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in Richmond.
  26. Jeffrey Dalin, DDS, of St. Louis, co-founder of the Give Kids a Smile program, was given the American Dental Association's 2022 Humanitarian Award.
