The University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill has appointed Janet Guthmiller, DDS, PhD, as dean, effective Oct. 15.
Dr. Guthmiller previously served as the school's associate dean of academic affairs and professor of periodontology from 2007-2014, according to a May 11 news release. She is rejoining the school from her current position as dean of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry.
Under her leadership, the Lincoln, Neb.-based dental school launched two educational programs and renovated several facilities to advance teaching and delivery of patient care. She also serves as the principal investigator of a $4 million contract from the state to increase oral health services to underserved residents.
Dr. Guthmiller has won several awards and authored many publications. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
