A dentist who asked for $394,000 in tax breaks to build a dental school and five other dentists who made headlines last week:
1. Glenn Lockwood, DDS, and and his wife, Saray Lockwood, were charged with tax evasion, conspiring to defraud the U.S., bankruptcy fraud, wire fraud and money laundering.
2. Wendell Edgin, DDS, who served as president of several dental organizations and formerly served as a consultant to the U.S. surgeon general, will retire after 42 years of practice.
3. Ghali Ghali, DDS, MD, was given the Distinguished Service Award from the Louisiana Dental Association.
4. Aamir Wahab, DDS, is among 19 people charged with conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and wire fraud in connection with a scheme to defraud the NBA's Health and Welfare Benefit Plan of $5 million.
5. Jay Sadrinia, DDS, was charged with unlawful distribution of oxycodone and morphine sulfate and distribution of morphine sulfate resulting in death or serious bodily injury.
6. Todd Shatkin, DDS, requested $394,000 in sales tax breaks to help Daemen University build a dental school in Amherst, N.Y.
