From scam calls to investigations, here are five dental moves happening in the Golden State:
1. The California Dental Association has issued a warning to dentists statewide about imposter calls that are potentially part of a payment-demand scam.
2. A bill that would expand the treatments dental assistants are authorized to perform under dentists' supervision was introduced to the California Legislature Feb. 16.
3. Coastal Max Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center was acquired by Fort Worth, Texas-based DSO, Five Point Dental Specialists.
4. Khuong Nguyen, DDS, a pediatric dentist in San Diego, is under investigation by the Dental Board of California after allegations that he billed for treatment that was either not performed or unnecessary.
5. The University of California San Francisco School of Dentistry received $22,033,043 in funding from the National Institutes of Health in 2021.
