Investigators have found new details surrounding a Virginia woman charged with illegally running a dental practice inside her husband's veterinary clinic, Wavy reported Feb. 23.
Cristine Caro-Valencia was arrested Nov. 22 over allegations that she was performing dental procedures under the business name "Cosmetica Dental Lab." Ms. Caro-Valencia is not licensed to practice dentistry in Virginia.
Her husband's veterinary clinic, the Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach, has been a registered business since 2015 in good standing, according to the state's corporation commission records. Cosmetica Dental Lab does not show up in the database.
Police found dental equipment and receipts during a search of the practice and executed a search warrant into the couple's finances. They found that the couple allegedly has three different bank accounts totaling more than $1 billion, according to Wavy. Ms. Caro-Valenia's husband has allegedly only reported $30,000 worth of assets each year to the Virginia Employment Commission, while Ms. Caro-Valencia allegedly has not reported any income in the last two years.
Ms. Caro-Valencia's husband is not currently facing any charges, and the Virginia Beach Commonwealth Attorney's Office told the news outlet it is actively conducting interviews as part of the ongoing investigation.
Ms. Caro-Valencia is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 22.
