From new bills to corruption schemes, below are five dental moves happening in the Sunshine State:
1. House Bill 7027 has been approved by the House Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee. The bill would make dental part of the rest of the state's managed care programs, which could deter dentists from participating in the Medicaid program.
2. Jacksonville University has launched a three-year program to earn a Master of Science in dentistry with a certificate in comprehensive oral implantology.
3. Carmel, Ind.-based Vista Verde Dental Partners plans to open a Britely Dentures + Implants Studio in Bonita Springs.
4. SmileFaith Foundation, a nonprofit in New Port Richey, restored veterans' smiles after inviting dentists from around the country to give them dental implants.
5. Florida-based dentist Benjamin Burris, DDS, has been sentenced to a year in federal prison for his role in a corruption scheme with a former Arkansas state senator.
