In the next two years, 11 percent of dentists plan to retire, according to a 2022 salary survey by DentalPost released Jan. 11.
DentalPost conducted its 2022 Salary Survey in late July through early September 2021 that included more than 13,000 dental professionals.
Twenty percent of those planning to retire in the next four years are under age 65. Twenty-five percent of dentists over the age of 65 plan to work another five to 10 years.
When dentists plan to retire:
- Within two years — 11 percent
- Two to four years — 16 percent
- Four to 10 years — 31 percent
- Ten to 20 years — 26 percent
- Twenty-one or more years — 16 percent
