Clark Stanford, DDS, PhD, dean of the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Dentistry, is stepping down from his position in April to lead the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in Iowa City, the Chicago-based school said Jan. 4.
Dr. Stanford has served as University of Illinois-Chicago's dental school dean since 2014. During his tenure, the school established new curriculum and degree programs, completed several projects and doubled its funding from the National Institutes of Health. The school also improved its financial management and increased the diversity of its student applicant pool.
Dr. Stanford will succeed David Johnsen, DDS, who stepped down from his position last June.
Dr. Stanford graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1987. He then received a certificate in prosthodontics and his PhD in cell biology there in 1992, after which he joined the school's faculty. He also served as the school's associate dean for research.
