Cataldo Leone, DMD, has been named dean of the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, the school said Nov. 30.
Dr. Leone, who specializes in periodontal disease, is the school's fourth dean in its six-decade history.
He has served as interim dean since April after the school's former dean, Jeffrey Hutter, retired. Under Dr. Leone's leadership, the school completed a $115 million expansion in September.
Dr. Leone joined the school in 1999 as an associate professor of periodontology and oral biology. He was promoted to full professor in 2006, followed by an appointment to assistant dean for academic affairs in 2007 and one to associate dean in 2008.
He earned his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and a doctorate of medical sciences in oral biology from Harvard University in Boston.
