Greenville, N.C.-based East Carolina University School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine are working together to increase access to telehealth services in rural communities, The Daily Reflector reported Nov. 20.
The schools are using a five-year HHS grant totaling $1.75 million to support the initiative.
They plan to use internet and cellular connections to increase access while identifying barriers and facilitators to telehealth services in the Beaufort, Bertie, Hertford, Duplin, Martin, Northampton and Pasquotank counties.
The schools also will work with community health centers and programs to provide the telehealth services, which are projected to include acute and chronic primary medical care, dental evaluations and referrals, behavioral health, nutrition and pharmacy counseling and chronic disease management.
