A $500,000 initiative between Delta Dental of Michigan, the Ford Motor Company Fund and Kare Mobile will provide mobile dental clinics to low-income residents in Southwest Detroit, The Detroit News reported Oct. 19.
Margaret Trimer, vice president of strategic partnerships for Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, told the Detroit News the project is meant to elevate minority entrepreneurs while increasing investments in dental care.
Hygiene on Wheels and My Community Dental Centers will operate the dental clinics through the Motor City Kares initiative.
Delta Dental purchased Ford transit vans that will be converted by Kare Mobile into the dental vehicles to be used next year.
Hygiene on Wheels Inc. and My Community Dental Centers will be required to spend half of their time operating in Detroit's Corktown and Mexicantown neighborhoods as part of the two-year agreement. They can keep the mobile clinics after two years.
