Patient data at Professional Dental Alliance of Indiana in Valparaiso may have been compromised after its administration and technology support services provider were hacked, The Times of Northwest Indiana reported Oct. 6.
On March 31 and April 1, Pittsburgh-based North American Dental Management experienced an email phishing and credential harvesting attack. A breach of personal information was later discovered during an investigation after the hacking.
Potentially exposed patient data includes "name, mailing address, email address, phone number, dental information, insurance information, Social Security number and financial account numbers," reported the Times.
North American Dental Management and Professional Dental Alliance are tightening email and computer system security. They are offering affected individuals two-year memberships to Experian's IdentityWorks, which aims to protect against identity theft.
Professional Dental Alliance is sending written notices to patients potentially affected by the data security breach.
