The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research has launched a three-year fellowship focused on dental public health, the agency said Sept. 20.
The program includes a 12-month, full-time residency focused on dental public health followed by a 24-month full-time postdoctoral fellowship focused on oral health research. Fellows are offered stipends to support their research as well as site visits to public health organizations, field experience, instructional seminars and lectures and expert guidance.
Program participants will also gain experience in public health administration, management of dental care programs, oral health promotion and the development of resources.
The program will be led by Bruce Dye, DDS, Timothy Iafolla, DMD, and Hosam Alraqiq, a health science analyst at the institute's office of science policy and analysis.
The institute, a branch of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, is the lead federal agency for improving the nation's oral health through research. It is accepting applications for the fellowship until Nov. 17 for an expected start date of July 5, 2022.
