Edwin Michael Thomas, DDS, the co-founder and former president of the American Academy of Dental Group Practice, died Aug. 29 at the age of 99.
Dr. Thomas earned his dental degree from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, D.C. He served in the Naval Dental Corps and the active naval reserve for 20 years, retiring as a lieutenant commander.
He opened a group of dental practices in Roslindale, Mattapan and Westwood, Mass. He also was a member of the board of directors for the American Academy of Dental Practice Administration and was recognized as a fellow of the American Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Thomas is survived by seven children, 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and extended family.
