Northwell Health's Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City recently named David Hirsch, MD, DDS, chair of its newly established department of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Hirsch is tasked with leading the expansion and growth of the department through clinical, academic and research services. He will also continue to serve as senior vice president of New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell's dental medicine service line, according to an Aug. 2 press release.
Dr. Hirsch joined the hospital in 2016, previously serving as director of the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City, now known as NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. He was previously an associate professor at New York University's School of Medicine and College of Dentistry.
He revolutionized jaw reconstruction with his "Jaw-in-a-Day" procedure for patients with jaw tumors, which was first performed in 2011. Using virtual surgical planning, the procedure shortens what previously took three surgeries over the course of a year to a single surgery.
He earned his dental and medical degrees from NYU's College of Dentistry and School of Medicine. He also completed a residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and fellowships at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and Providence Hospital in Portland, Ore.
