A South Carolina dentist who served as the president of the state's dental association and the board of dentistry has died, The Gaffney Ledger reported July 30.
Dr. Ron Barrett died July 28 at the age of 79. He served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps before opening Cherokee General Dentistry in 1972.
In addition to his leadership roles at the state's dental organizations, he was president of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce where he worked to help the community. He was also known for visiting local elementary schools to teach children about oral health care. In 2003, the South Carolina Dental Association awarded him for his commitment to the organization, dental profession and community.
Dr. Barrett retired from the industry in 2013.
