From a federal lawsuit to a new dental technician school, here are four dentists making headlines:
- Pennsylvania periodontist Charles Musto, DMD, who was acquitted of tax fraud in 2019, recently filed a federal lawsuit alleging that his constitutional rights were violated and that he was maliciously prosecuted when he was charged in 2016.
- A dental technician school founded by Kami Hoss, DDS, was recently granted accreditation from the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.
- Rep. Paul Gosar, DDS, R-Ariz., will no longer receive financial contributions from the American Dental Association after the organization's board of trustees determined that it should suspend contributions following a campaign by the representative's siblings asking leading organizations to no longer back him.
- The Lake County (Ill.) State's Attorney's Office and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation launched an investigation following an Illinois patient's death. Aaron Cwik, DDS, reportedly gave the patient too much anesthesia and did not have the proper monitoring devices, which caused the patient to go into cardiac arrest during the procedure. He was taken to a hospital, where he died the next day.
