A pair found guilty of wire fraud against a Fort Wayne, Ind., dental practice have been sentenced to prison and ordered to pay $2.9 million in restitution, according to the Department of Justice.
Brian Nordan, 44, was hired as chief marketing officer and general manager of a dental practice in March 2006, according to a July 23 news release. In 2018, the owner of the dental practice discovered that Mr. Nordan had stolen funds from the practice through multiple schemes. He reportedly used company funds to pay for personal expenses, investments into a toothpaste company he owned and wages to family members who were not employed at the practice.
Mr. Nordan hired his husband, Dustin Coleman, 43, in 2012 to conduct marketing work for the practice without the knowledge or permission of the dentist owner. Mr. Nordan paid Mr. Coleman $149,756 in wages and benefits from 2016-18.
Forensic accountants found Mr. Nordan had stolen more than $3 million from the practice in total.
Mr. Nordan was sentenced to 42 months in prison and two years of supervised release. He must also pay $2,981,357.05 in restitution. Mr. Coleman was sentenced to six months in prison and 12 months of supervised release, and must pay $149,756 in restitution.
