San Diego-based Howard Healthcare Academy recently received accreditation from the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education, according to a July 22 press release.
The academy is San Diego's only dental technical education school. It was started by Kami Hoss, DDS, who is also the founder of San Diego-based practice The Super Dentists. He founded the academy in response to a greater need for highly trained dental assistants, which there is currently a shortage of.
According to a May poll from the American Dental Association, more than 80 percent of dentists found the recruitment of dental hygienists and assistants to be extremely or very challenging. About 35.8 percent of dentist owners are also actively recruiting dental assistants.
The need for dental assistants could become more prevalent because the industry is expected to continue to grow, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
