Raymond Cohlmia, DDS, will be joining the American Dental Association as its newest executive director, according to a May 12 press release.
The ADA's board of trustees selected Dr. Cohlmia as part of a robust search after an announcement last year that its former executive director, Kathleen O'Loughlin, DMD, would be retiring at the end of 2021. Dr. Cohlmia will begin his new role this October.
Dr. Cohlmia graduated from the Oklahoma City-based University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 1988 and ran a private dental practice for 26 years before returning to the university in 2009, where he served in multiple leadership positions.
"The American Dental Association is excited to welcome Dr. Cohlmia as its new executive director," said ADA President Daniel J. Klemmedson, DDS, MD. "In addition to a breadth of experience in dental practice and education, his many years of service in organized dentistry made him a standout candidate."
