Dental product manufacturer Dentsply Sirona has scrapped a $3.9 million incentives agreement with the state of North Carolina, less than two years after it moved its headquarters from York, Pa., to Charlotte, the Charlotte Business Journal reports.
North Carolina's economic investment committee on March 9 agreed to cancel Dentsply's job development investment grant, which outlined a plan to create 320 jobs in Charlotte over three years.
In September 2018, when the agreement was made, Dentsply had 145 staff in Charlotte. The company has created 80 local jobs since, according to the report. Dentsply said it remains committed to Charlotte, but it will not be held to the previously agreed job-creation targets.
In a statement to the Journal, a Dentsply spokeswoman cited the COVID-19 pandemic and changing business conditions as reasons for terminating the agreement.
"The pandemic has changed how business is done, making talent more flexible and increasing the ability to effectively work remotely."
