The status of dental practices across the U.S. varies between dental specialties, according to an American Dental Association economic impact survey for the week of Jan. 18.
Survey respondents were asked, "What is the current status of your dental practice?"
General practice: 43 percent open and business as usual; 55.9 percent open but lower patient volume than usual; 1.1 percent treating emergency patients only or not treating any patients at all
Dental surgical specialist: 51.6 percent open and business as usual; 48.4 percent open but lower patient volume than usual
Endodontist: 56.9 percent open and business as usual; 41.2 percent open but lower patient volume than usual; 1.9 percent treating emergency patients only
Orthodontist: 42.2 percent open and business as usual; 56.3 percent open but lower patient volume than usual; 1.5 percent not treating any patients at all
Pediatric dentist: 31.9 percent open and business as usual; 66.7 percent open but lower patient volume than usual; 1.4 percent not treating any patients at all
Periodontist: 44.8 percent open and business as usual; 53.7 percent open but lower patient volume than usual; 1.5 percent not treating any patients at all
Prosthodontist: 30 percent open and business as usual; 70 percent open but lower patient volume than usual
