A dentist from Walla Walla, Ore., is accused of changing a 2-year-old's treatment plan without giving his mother full information, according to a Jan. 25 report from the East Oregonian.
The state Department of Health Dental Quality Assurance Commission filed a statement Nov. 24 accusing Mackenzie Craik, DDS, of practicing unprofessional conduct in the state.
In August 2019, the child was scheduled to have three fillings done under anesthesia, which his mother consented to, according to the statement. However, the statement alleges that Dr. Craik performed 12 tooth restorations in total and used stainless steel crowns without the mother's knowledge.
In October, Dr. Craik's practice permanently closed due to his "abrupt departure," according to a social media post cited by the East Oregonian. Now, he's listed on LinkedIn as a co-owner for Augusta, Ga.-based The Center for Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Craik didn't respond to the commission's allegations within the 20-day deadline, and his Washington state dental license may be suspended pending review by the commission, the report said.
