SmileDirectClub said it will be developing a $34 million manufacturing facility in Columbia, Tenn., along with 600 new jobs, according to CBS affiliate WTVF.
The plant is the company's third expansion in Tennessee in the last three years. Previously, SmileDirectClub invested $217 million into its Nashville headquarters, adding more than 2,000 jobs.
"Even during these challenging times, Maury County continues to serve as an engine of economic growth for the state of Tennessee," Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles said.
The news comes right after SmileDirectClub pulled the plug on a $37 million manufacturing plant in Texas that was expected to employ 850 people. The company said it was impractical for employees based at its Nashville headquarters to oversee the plant development amid pandemic travel restrictions and health concerns.
