New Orleans dentist Bristol Williams, DDS, used her own money to hold a voter registration drive for her community on Aug. 22, according to local NBC affiliate WDSU.
The event, held at A.L. Davis Park, featured voter registration stations, catered soul food, music and a giveaway of 100 face shields for children.
"I wanted to host this event because I absolutely love New Orleans, and there’s a lot of people in the city whose needs are not getting met that heavily contribute to the economic growth of this city," Dr. Williams told WDSU. "It’s important that we understand that we have power, but we can’t sit on the sidelines and complain. We have to vote."
Dr. Williams told WDSU she also wanted to get people's information at the event so she can keep them informed and assist them if they run into any obstacles that could prevent them from voting.
