The amount of health insurers offering adult dental benefits has doubled in the past two years, according to recent survey results from business and technology consulting firm West Monroe.
The survey involved 106 executives of commercial and government dental and health insurance plans, finding that 80 percent of them are offering dental benefits. It examined the following scenarios that could emerge in the future:
- Dental coverage converges with overall health coverage to form one product with a shared premium.
- Dental coverage is tacked onto health coverage, consisting of two products with either shared or separate premiums.
- Dental coverage remains a standalone plan but diversifies, extending into other secondary plans such as life and short-term disability insurance.
