Ali Barbarawi, DDS, owner of Minneapolis-based Chicago Lake Family Dental, is working to rebuild his dental practice that was burned down, according to an interview with ADA News.
The practice, one of the few critical access dental care facilities in Minneapolis' southside community, was ransacked and later set on fire on May 29 and 30 as citywide unrest erupted alongside peaceful protests against racism and excessive police force.
Dr. Barbarawi, who was unable to salvage anything from the office because of smoke and water damage, told ADA News he estimates property loss to be $500,000 to $1 million.
Hoping to resume caring for patients as soon as possible, Dr. Barbarawi launched a GoFundMe page to speed the rebuilding process and support his dental team. As of June 10, the page had raised more than $53,000.
"We’ll rebuild better than before," Dr. Barbarawi told ADA News. "My team is looking forward to serving our community again."
