Starting June 10, dental providers participating in Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program can apply to receive funding created under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, according to an announcement by HHS.
About 39 percent of dentists participate in Medicaid or CHIP, according to data from the American Dental Association. Eligible dentists should submit their annual patient revenue to the Provider Relief Fund Payment Portal. The information will be used as a factor to determine payment, which will be at least 2 percent of the provider's reported gross revenue. The funding amount will also be based on the number of Medicaid patients the dentist serves.
To be eligible, dentists must not have received payments from an earlier $50 billion distribution, HHS said.
Since the CARES Act became law March 27, the ADA has advocated for the inclusion of dentists in provider relief provisions.
