As many dentists rush to adopt teledentistry during the pandemic, some feel unsure of how to go about billing and benefits, according to an article published June 2 by the California Dental Association.
Here are five tips to know when billing for teledentistry:
- Insurance providers often have billing options available for teledentistry.
- Many dental plans are reimbursing certain procedures delivered through teledentistry.
- Dentists should submit claims electronically to avoid delayed pay.
- Dentists can be reimbursed faster if they enroll in electronic funds transfer.
- Not all dental plans cover or reimburse teledentistry codes. The dental plan does not view the code as a covered benefit, but rather as a report on the appointment's delivery method.
